My new iBook G3 12"
I recently got my first vintage Apple mobile device: iBook G3 12". It's in nice condition, even battery life is good.
Configuration:
Name: iBook
Model: PowerBook4,3
Introduced November 2002
CPU 800 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
RAM 128 MB Built-in + 512 MB PC133 SDRAM
GPU ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32 MB
Display 12.1" TFT XGA
HDD 30 GB ATA
DVD ROM 16x Combo Drive
I got this i Book with a little defect - Backspace key is not working. I disassembled the keyboard to find out whats wrong and it turned out to be a hardware problem - the printed circuit was broken here. I didn't think I can handle such repair so I left it as it was.
Second option was to remap keyboard to get other key to work like Backspace. I tried out some Applications and hoped that I can use Eject key for this function because it is right next to the original Backspace and it's not used frequently. Unfortunately, this is impossible. Eject key simply isn't working like a normal key, it needs to be pressed for a while. So it can not be remapped. After this, I remapped the secondary Enter (Return) key (on the right side of Space) to work as Backspace. I did this using Ukulele, which created new keyboard layout that I have to use instead of my native (Czech).
